Selling Your Car Online: How to Create an Advert That Gets Attention

Start with honest, complete information

A good advert answers obvious questions before a buyer has to ask them. Include the correct make, model, year, mileage, fuel type, gearbox, body style and key specification. If there are important faults or cosmetic marks, being clear about them can save wasted conversations later.

Take photos that help the buyer

Clean the car first and photograph it in daylight where possible. Include front, rear and side views, the wheels, interior, dashboard, seats, boot and any notable features. Avoid heavy filters or images that hide the condition. Buyers are more likely to enquire when they can understand what they are looking at.

Write for people, not search engines

Use a simple description that explains the car's strongest points, recent maintenance and anything included with the sale. Mention service history, number of keys and recent major work if relevant. Avoid filling the description with repeated keywords or exaggerated claims.

Set a realistic price

Compare similar cars by year, engine, trim, mileage and condition. Pricing far above comparable stock can reduce enquiries, while pricing unusually low may make buyers suspicious. A realistic asking price gives you a better chance of attracting serious interest.

Keep the advert current

If the vehicle sells, mark it as sold promptly. If the price, mileage or condition changes, update the advert. Motavo allows sellers to manage their stock from the account dashboard, and external listings can also be linked so buyers can reach the original advert.
